 Institution of Lector

Nick Elliott and Jim Koetz celebrated the Rite of Institution to Lector on Thursday, October 3 at St. Mark, Edgewood. It is the second step toward ordination to the Permanent Diaconate. The first step, Admission to Candidacy, was celebrated after their first full year of formation; the Institution of Acolyte will be celebrated after their third year of formation before ordination in 2021. Thirteen candidates were called forth by John Stierman, Director of the Permanent Diaconate, to present themselves to Archbishop Jackels. After the Archbishop gave instruction in the homily, the candidates each came forward to receive the Bible with these words, “Take this book of holy Scripture and be faithful in handing on the Word of God, so that it may grow strong in the hearts of His people.” Please pray for these two men from the St. Elizabeth Pastorate as they continue to discern God’s will on their journey toward ordination.
